Charles Gates

Charles Gates is a high energy presentation coach, speaker, author, emcee, senior facility DJ, mentor and community activist. His mission is to empower US to be the absolute best versions of ourselves, through dialogue, strategy and action.

He is the Vice President and Community Coordination Committee Chair of the YJCW NAACP, a member of the Williamsburg Citizens Advisory Committee, Toastmasters International, and the FBI Community Roundtable. He is a graduate of the JCC Citizens Police and Forensic Academy, the FBI Citizens Academy, Suffolk Citizens Commonwealth Attorney’s Academy, the United Way of South Hampton Roads’ Project Inclusion and a host of other grass root organizations and associations.

His ebook “Bring the Zing- 5 Keys to Powerful Presentations, Briefings and Meetings,” the first in a series, is available on Amazon.

He is married to the lovely Lei Lana, have three adult children and two loyal German Shepards.

Welcome & Opening Session

Welcome from our President Joe Howze along with learning more about the VAHRMM organization and the benefits of the organization.

Joe Douglas Howze, Jr. is a Product Analyst at Sentara Health Plans, where he brings a comprehensive background in healthcare administration. His career began at Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute, where he developed an asset management system as the facility’s first Purchasing Fixed Asset Manager. Transitioning to Riverside Healthcare in 2013, Joe honed his skills in contract negotiation and compliance. With an MBA from Hampton University, he joined Sentara in 2015 as an Orthopedic Contract Specialist, achieving substantial savings in supply chain initiatives. Now as Product Analyst, he supports the Medicare product portfolio, utilizing his expertise in supply chain, hospital administration, and health insurance. Joe also pursues his passion for broadcast journalism and embraces opportunities to contribute to the healthcare community, including his role as President of VARHMM. His guiding principle is that “Preparation meets opportunity equals success.

Ed Hisscock retired as the Senior Vice President and Chief Supply Chain Officer at Trinity Health

Ed Hisscock retired as the Senior Vice President and Chief Supply Chain Officer at Trinity Health, a leading catholic healthcare ministry. He is a lifelong Healthcare Supply Chain Practitioner having spent 40 years serving in the supply chain and IT disciplines with fortune 50 companies, healthcare supplier and healthcare provider organizations. Ed has founded two healthcare companies and personally served over 100 healthcare provider organizations in the US and Europe.

Ed holds an Engineering degree in Electronics, a Bachelors degree in Behavioral Science, and a Master’s degree in Supply Chain from Michigan State University.

DR. Matthew Meyer – Head of Sustainability, UVA Health

Dr. Matthew Meyer is a parent of two young children and they are his motivation for his work in healthcare sustainability. He is a sustainable healthcare researcher, a steering-committee member of Virginia Clinicians for CIimate Action, and co-chair of the UVA Health Sustainability Committee. He co-founded Periop Green (periopgreen.com) to develop technology to reduce operating room waste to the least amount possible. He works clinically as an anesthesiologist and is an assistant professor at the University of Virginia.
